Feathered friends

Today's lesson is about birds.....
Husband and I enjoyed a picnic at a local dam today.  As we sat at our chosen spot, two ducks came swimming along.  I threw a few lamington crumbs in their direction.  One whiff of the chocolate and coconut encased delight, and they were out of the water and heading our way.  Fresh out of lamingtons, we offered them some bun loaf which they loved.  Such a change from bugs and slimy stuff.   Don't they look happy and grateful?!

Then word got out.... someone told the swans.  So over they came.  I've never been up close with a swan before.  They are kind of like a cross between a duck and a goose, personality wise.  Happy to see you, like a duck.  Give me what you've got, like a goose.  So we handed over the bun loaf and no body got hurt.  We felt like the luckiest people at the Dam to be graced with the presence of such beautiful birds.  I reckon if we had have had a fish, we could have attracted the pelicans over the other side of the Dam.  But, we'll leave that for another day.

One more bird tale to share.  This is from our "city farm".  Two magnificent chooks (Australorp x Rhode Island Red) names Sofia & Louise live on the farm and provide much humour and fresh eggs.  Louise being the most humorous, as she can crow like a rooster.  What must the neighbours think?!?!?  I won't go into the theory behind this behaviour.  Anyway, Sofia has snubbed the lovely chookhouse in favour of a spot in the garden for laying her egg each day.  I call it her "happy place", since it is under a Happy Plant up near the house.  Here she is...

And this is what she produced.  Another perfect egg.  Don't you just love 'em.

  1. Oh Jane, I just love it! I can just see the two of you sitting by that dam! Animals are very intuitive, they know two wonderful souls when they see them. Of course they were going to come to visit and enjoy your company. XXXX
